What is Ortze?
Project ORTZE-CV has been created fundamentally to research and develop highly-efficient energy solutions and reduced emissions of both gaseous and acoustic pollutants (zero emissions in protected environments) specifically applicable to coastal vessels.
THESE TECHNOLOGIES AND SOLUTIONS WILL ENABLE THESE VESSELS TO PERFORM THEIR COASTAL ACTIVITIES WHILST CAUSING THE LEAST IMPACT POSSIBLE ON THE ECOSYSTEMS THEY SAIL THROUGH AND ON THE SURROUNDING ENVIRONMENT IN GENERAL.
The R&D initiatives planned will culminate in a technological demonstration in the actual ORTZE training vessel, which will be able to perform operations of a high scientific and educational value on our coast and will be a local and international reference in its sector both in terms of the technologies it includes and in terms of its final purpose.
COMMITMENT TO THE ENVIRONMENT, THE HEALTH OF THE SEAS AND OCEANS, TECHNOLOGY AND INTERNATIONAL POSITIONING (BOTH AT INDUSTRIAL LEVEL AND IN TERMS OF RESEARCH AND EDUCATION) ARE THE CORNERSTONES OF THE CONSORTIUM CREATED TO CARRY OUT THIS AMAZING AND AMBITIOUS R&D PROJECT.

Currently, energy and transport policies are prioritised by a commitment to the environment and concern for problems arising from climate change. Hence, the international Maritime Organisation is legislating the reduction of nitrogen oxide (NOx) and sulphur oxide (SOx) emissions in the maritime sector.
There is a growing interest in the health of ecosystems, the impact of the diverse sources of environmental stress on their functioning and sustainability, as well as the repercussions on social well-being.
Society’s awareness of environmental issues is a strategic priority worldwide and bringing science closer to the public is a priority in the European Union. European policies related to sea management seek to ensure the healthy condition of marine ecosystems by regulating main human activities in the marine environment and creating opportunities for social and economic growth in high-potential sectors (Blue Growth).
THE CONSERVATION OF MARINE ECOSYSTEMS IS FUNDAMENTAL TO OUR FUTURE WELLBEING
OCEANS ARE AN IMPORTANT SOURCE OF RESOURCES WHICH WE MUST RESPECT
WE MUST STRIVE TO ENSURE THAT THE COASTS ARE INCREASINGLY GREEN AND THAT THE OCEANS AND SEAS ARE INCREASINGLY BLUE
